January 29, 2009 - John Mehno
I was reading Buck Frank's dispatches from the Super Bowl and noted that the Arizona Cardinals' media availability was at 8 a.m. That would have been perfect for me. I could have caught the Cardinals right before I went to bed.
By the way, Buck said that he's been to the no-frills media party, and that would be the end of his social whirl for the week. However, I got a mysterious text message yesterday suggesting that Buck had fallen in with the posse of a well-known hip hop artist and was circulating at all of Tampa's hot spots. Apparently BF is now someone's BFF. I'll keep you posted if more details become availabe.
I don't know what you're hearing, but everyone I know thinks this is an automatic win for the Steelers. I don't think so. This is the kind of offense they don't see very much in the regular season. Arizona can get down 21-7 and get back in the game on two plays. You can have Larry Fitzgerald covered and still see him make spectacular catches. So I'm not as certain about this one as a lot of other people seem to be.
Have you noticed all the advertisements mentioning the "big game?" That's because the NFL has a trademark on the phrase "Super Bowl" and they go into the prevent defense when it's time to protect that. In another year or two, they'll get the rights to "big game," too, and we'll have to call it something else.
OK, better have your game-day food and beverages on hand by the close of business today. Things will get nutty starting tomorrow.
