Picking with my heart
January 12, 2009 - Neil Rudel
Let's cut to the chase: I'm picking the Steelers and Arizona.
And I'll admit it up front: I'm picking the Steelers in part with my heart.
There are plenty of compelling reasons to side with the Black & Gold: They're at home, they've had some home playoff failures with this nucleus over the past few years; they appear to be playing better than anybody else still standing; and Baltimore has a rookie quarterback.
But the biggest reason I'm picking the Steelers is this: What fun is it, around here, to pick the Ravens?
I'm not as passionate about the Eagles, but I'm rooting for them, too.
I'm not, however, as confident that they're as good of a bet as the Steelers, even though both are in favorite's role.
While the Eagles are playing great -- and while a Pennsylvania Super Bowl would be fantastic (how about shifting it to Beaver Stadium?) -- they, like the Ravens, have now been on the road three straight weeks.
I do like the Eagles' commitment to the beards, but Arizona has been extremely impressive, and I'm not sure there's an answer for Larry Fitzgerald.
If we can only get one Pennsylvania team there, for me it will have to be the Steelers.
