One thing after another
August 9, 2008 - John Mehno
I'm not at all superstitious. I'm not a wood-knocker or a salt tosser, and black cats only bother me in the sense they make me sneeze.
But I do believe there are sometimes games -- and even seasons -- where a lot of variables either go totally right or completely wrong. I'm starting to wonder if your 2008 Pittsburgh Football Steelers are on the latter course. It started before training camp with the ownership situation, and it hasn't gotten much better.
Casey Hampton showed up out of shape and forced Mike Tomlin to discipline a veteran who is popular with his teammates. Punter Daniel Sepulveda had a season-ending knee injury as soon as camp opened. In the first preseason game, backup quarterback Charlie Batch broke his collarbone.
The Steelers appear to have a killer schedule, so things won't be easy. They'll be even tougher if things continue the way they've been going.
