Yankee lore special

June 26, 2008 - Neil Rudel

I had the pleasure of attending the Pirates-Yankees game at PNC Park Wednesday night.

What a great scene.

The visit by the most storied franchise in professional sports history delivered a rare weeknight sellout and made the yard come even more alive.

Yeah, the Pirates lost 10-0 and didn't play well in the process -- commiting errors and walking the pitcher again -- but that was outweighed by the aura surrounding the Yankees, who had more than their share of fans in attendance.

Some of the jersey names worn by Yankee fans included Ruth (No. 3), Mantle (No. 7), Murcer (No. 1) and Munson (No. 15). Cool stuff.

That aside, here's hoping the Pirates can regroup and win the series tonight.

Two out of three against the Yankees and Devil Rays this weekend could provide a carryover boost as the calendar hits July.
