While visiting the new Art 4 Gallery in Hollidaysburg, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of local art shown as well as works by many newcomers. It was a visual treat to walk around and admire works ranging from hand-created ceramics and paintings to free form sculptures. I chatted with Jodi Christen for a while and she told me a little of how she and Sue Port Simon started collaborating on the idea for the gallery. It took over a year to research and plan, and now they have a beautiful location in the repurposed Brian's Bakery building.
I enjoyed the works on display as well as the attention to detail, such as the use of wood from Jodi's husbands family barn as part of the counter and shelving for their shop. Just a really nice touch!
Here are a few pics to get an idea of what Art 4 is all about, with attention to local artists.
Some beautiful encaustic abstract paintings...
My daughter and I both loved the giant acorns! :)
Quite a few pieces were displayed that have a sense of humor, "quirkyness" and an appreciation for finding balance in our lives through the arts. Loved it all!
I wasn't disappointed in going to the gallery as it is quite a visual treat. And even if you don't buy anything, it will give you a lot of ideas for your next gift selection.
