Olympic Moments - Munich 1972

May 28, 2008 - Erik Brown
With the Beijing Olympic Games less than three months away, it seems like a good time to take a look back at some of my favorite Olympic moments.
The 1972 Games in Munich will always be remembered for the shameful and tragic terrorist attack on members of the Israeli Olympic Team. But I will also always remember the final of the men’s 800 meters. If you don’t remember this race, or if you weren’t born yet, see if you can predict who the winner will be as the race progresses. You may want to watch this clip a second time to fully appreciate what takes place. Click here for the video.
Ok, I know what you're thinking. What about Frank Shorter, the last American male to win a gold medal in the marathon? So, here's another great video clip from the 1972 Games.

Also, don’t forget the Hollidaysburg Area YMCA’s Altoona Curve Home Run Race.

The race will take place on Saturday, June 7th with an 8:30 AM start. This race has been re-scheduled from it's original May 3rd date due to a rain-out, so this is the second leg of the Community Wellness Challenge Series that features eight races this year- including a late summer triathlon at Canoe Creek State Park.
