Some Unplugged Options...
February 2, 2008 - Jim Price
Among the live music happenings this weekend are two noteworthy acoustic performances to bring to your attention.
This Saturday night, Feb. 2, Matt "Goody" Goodreau makes his return to the Altoona area with an acoustic performance at The Hitching Post. As you might recall, "Goody" was the lead singer for Wellsboro-based rock powerhouse Til December until that group retired from live stage action last September. As reported in one of my previous blogs, the four members of Til December have gone their separate ways to pursue different endeavors; "Goody" is continuing in music as an acoustic performer.
("Goody's" former Til December bandmate, Jeremy Edge, is assembling a new band with the former Stept On rhythm section of bassist Adam Zimmer and drummer Josh Hetrick. That project is currently seeking a lead vocalist to complete the line-up.)
And on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 3, for your musical enjoyment before the Super Bowl, rising regional rock force Rise Phoenix Rise is doing a special in-store acoustic performance at the Logan Valley Mall FYE store, starting at 2:30. As you might recall, Rise Phoenix Rise is the band started in late 2006 by drummer Rob Hampton after he parted ways with popular Berwick-based modern rock band The Poptart Monkeys. The group is doing an acoustic tour of FYE stores throughout the eastern U.S. to promote their recently-released first album, The Land of Oohs and Aahs. If you prefer to see Rise Phoenix Rise in their full-blown electric entity, they will perform at Pellegrine's later Sunday evening following the Super Bowl.
