Hoping for a Pats-Packers finale
January 16, 2008 - Neil Rudel
If you've clicked in to see more barbs with John Mehno, not today.
I surrender. Bad enough Mehno started using the "tool bar" on me, but then he gets unsoliticed support from Ray Eckenrode, a more-than-willing accomplice.
Plus as most who know Mehno are aware, he has deep roots in professional wrestling. So I'm retreating ... for now, perhaps to return with a foreign substance.
I'm here to talk NFL football today.
I'm rooting for the Packers and the Patriots. It would be the best matchup with the heavyweight, bad-guy Pats against the feel-good story of the year, Green Bay/Brett Favre.
If that's the Super Bowl matchup, I'll be pulling for the Packers, even though I'm old enough to remember when they broke my heart 40-plus years ago.
Background: My dad used to sell insurance for Southwestern Life, based out of Dallas. He was loyal to the Cowboys; it may have been the fruitcake Southwestern sent every year. As a 10-year-old, I was indoctrinated and can remember being disappointed when the Packers outgunned Dandy Don for the NFL title in '66 and then won on Bart Starr's QB sneak in the '67 Ice Bowl.
Since then, even though my dad stuck with Dallas, I've switched over to the Steelers ... and have forgiven the Packers.
