Hurricanes Thursdays Return!

January 10, 2008 - Jim Price
If you’re looking to get a head start on your weekend, a familiar favorite is back in action every Thursday night on the stage at the new 30 Something Restaurant & Lounge (formerly City Limits) in Greenwood.  Beginning this Thursday night, Jan. 10, Felix & the Hurricanes bring their brand of classic, southern and blues rock back to the Greenwood stage, beginning at 10 PM.

It’s a welcome return on two fronts.  First, it brings the Hurricanes back to Thursdays in the Altoona area on a regular basis.  After the closure of Peter C’s two years ago ended the Hurricanes’ weekly run at that venue, the group played random Thursdays at Shaw’s Bar in Juniata and the Iron Horse Café in Gallitzin.

Second, it returns the Hurricanes to this particular stage every week.  Back in the 90’s, when this venue was known as New Sebastiano’s, the Hurricanes first built their Altoona area fan base with a weekly Tuesday night show on this same stage.  For much of that period, though, it was a different Hurricanes roster, featuring group founder and mainstay Felix Kos on guitar and vocals, Bill Nusom on bass and vocals, and John McKnight on drums and vocals.  After McKnight relocated to Atlanta in 1997, the current edition of the Hurricanes; Felix, bassist/singer Jeff Clapper and drummer Bob Watters; reunited and has been going strong ever since.

Of course, you can expect to hear the Hurricanes fire through numerous classic, southern rock and blues favorites spanning Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers to Grand Funk Railroad, the Beatles, Badfinger, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Santana and many more.  And lately, the group has been stage-testing a number of new original songs, as they anticipate recording their third studio album in the near future.

Many memories have been made during the Hurricanes’ weekly shows on area stages, as guest musicians are known to frequently show up and jam onstage with the group.  Members of the group’s loyal fan legion, affectionately known as the Hurricaniacs, will likely be in attendance as well, and with this new Thursday situation, that legion should see an influx of new members.

So if you have been craving your Felix fix on Thursday nights, 30 Something Restaurant & Lounge is the new Thursday night home for the Hurricanes, and the musical fireworks begin this Thursday night.

30 Something Restaurant & Lounge is located at 1524 E. Walton Avenue in Greenwood (the corner of Walton Avenue and Pleasant Valley Boulevard).  Their phone number is 296-2680.
