Cavs running out of time

June 12, 2007 - Neil Rudel

If Cleveland is going to win a game in the NBA Finals, it would figure to be tonight.

The Cavs have been clearly outmatched by the Spurs, but they'll likely get a boost from their home crowd tonight. Plus you have to figure King James will play better than he has in the first two games.

Credit Mike Brown for getting Cleveland into the Finals, but he sure didn't have his wits in sitting James for nearly nine minutes of the first quarter of Game 2. James got two quick fouls, fine. But Cleveland is struggling to hang with the Spurs even with him on the court. It's one thing to pull him out for a quick refocus, but the Cavs obviously can't survive without him -- especially on the road.

If the Cavs don't win Game 3, then they're on life support and any victory down 3-0 would be hollow.

Not to pile on the Pirates, but it appears the following Pirates -- Jack Wilson, Zach Duke, Chris Duffy, Rony Paulino and Jose Castillo -- have regressed under Jim Tracy's watch.

Upon calling my dad moments after the Belmont to congratulate his first right pick (Rags to Riches) in a couple of years, he answered excitedly, "I guess not?"

The old man takes some momentum into the '08 Derby.
