Blame mental health, not Trump, for violence

Reading the Sept. 10 rant by Elizabeth Shade deserves swift response.

Once again Shade posts an opinion without facts and deems her rhetoric factual. So let me clear up her glaring misgivings: Mental health is the issue for these mass shootings.

No one in their right mind would casually murder anyone let alone large numbers of strangers. Common sense will bear out this fact. Her attack on the president for bringing up this fact is exactly why we have these types of shootings.

No one is held accountable for their actions anymore. It’s that simple.

Secondly, her ignorance of “assault” weapons is glaringly obvious. The military does not have “assault” weapons. Period.

They employ fully automatic functioning weapons of various types and manufacture. And they are used to protect Shade’s First Amendment right to free speech, even if it is made up — as hers obviously is.

You cannot own a fully automatic weapon in the United States without going through an extremely rigorous background check by the ATF and FBI.

They don’t just look at speeding tickets, but contact family and friends and search for information that the average citizen can’t imagine.

Then, if you pass the background check, you must pay a hefty fee to own just one particular gun. If you are a collector you must possess the license for each and every automatic weapon you have.

And these are not the individuals committing the atrocity of murdering fellow citizens without cause.
