Address local demand, not supply, of drugs

Congratulations to the Blair County drug force for taking down 72 low-level street dealers last week, believing that the community will be a safer place.

Contrary to their belief, it will create a vacuum for other dealers to move in. Now that there are 72 low-level dealers off the streets, where are the people going to get their drugs from?

It’s the supply and demand. If we could turn our focus from the supply to the demand, we can start to understand why people are addict to drugs.

It’s a disease, but we don’t treat it like a disease. Incarceration is not the answer. These people need treatment.

To think of all the money spent on rounding up 72 low-level street dealers when it could have been used to treat this disease.

Oh, the humanity.
