Nation on verge of being divided

After returning from Gettysburg, the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War, I had a few thoughts as we traveled those hallowed grounds.

Our United States was on the verge of splitting based on differing opinions. Although slavery was the deciding factor, there were other issues at play.

This is not as much a history lesson as it is a warning, a reminder that this country once became divided with the loss of an estimated 620,000.

Families were destroyed, it pitted brother against brother, neighbor against neighbor, wives became widows and children grew up without fathers.

I fear we are once again becoming a nation divided something we so desperately fought against over 150 years ago.

Lifelong friends have become enemies based of their voting choices. Politicians are fighting within their own parties achieving less as they focus on the differences and spending little time on the solutions.

I put my faith in God and am not concerned about the future, but the pain we have inflicted on ourselves throughout history because of differing opinions should not be forgotten, and we must once again become the country originally created by our forefathers, not the red or the blue states, but the United States.
