Politics driving anti-Muslim terror

Saturday, Jan. 28, about 2 a.m., a mosque in a Muslim community in Victoria, Texas, was destroyed by fire.

The mosque also was burglarized earlier this month.

At a Mosque in Quebec City, Canada, a gunman fired indiscriminately into the crowd of worshipers, killing six.

There is a growing anti-Muslim bigotry. There has been a spike in hate incidents targeting Islamic institutions and individuals.

Law enforcement agencies had reported more than 200 anti-Muslim incidents in 2015. That was an increase of more than 60 percent from the year before.

This all was precipitated by our politics.

Something good did come out of the fire in Texas.

Nearly $1 million was raised to help rebuild the mosque. Help came from the local community and thousands of messages, prayers and donations from all over the world.

We all don’t hate Muslims.
