Reins need kept on government

It is said that “Freedom isn’t free.”

Yet, we have all heard, “I will gladly give up some freedoms to feel safe.”

But if that door is opened, where does it end? Who determines the freedoms I must give up in exchange for safety? Maybe there will be a feeling of safety, but are we safe from interference from our government? Perhaps not.

I personally believe that we are safest when Congress is not in session making more laws.

In the words of (in my opinion) our greatest president, Ronald Reagan: ” if we lose freedom here, there’s no place to escape to; this is the last stand on earth.”

Yes, freedom and liberty certainly bring risks. But trusting the government as the solution brings a greater risk to freedom. After all, the largest words in the U.S. Constitution are, “We the people.”

That’s because government derives its power from the people. If we forget that, government will run unrestrained all over the freedoms we now have.

Yes, I want to feel safe. But I also want to know that my freedoms are intact. I’m willing to accept some risk, rather than lose freedoms.

The U.S. Constitution provides for limitations on the government. Never forget that.
