Nutcracker perfect start to Christmas

There was an oversight in the Dec. 4 Go edition of the Mirror regarding the Allegheny Ballet Nutcracker article.

I would like to recognize the other two dancers in main roles, who were not recognized in the article.

Kaylie Hutzell of Hollidaysburg shared the role of “Sugar Plum Fairy” with fellow senior Katarina Flores.

These two dancers were accompanied by an Australian guest artist, Francis John Lawrence, who performed the role of the “Sugar Plum Cavalier” in the Allegheny Ballet Company rendition of “The Nutcracker.”

Lawrence is a ballet/contemporary dancer, performing with Dance Theatre of Harlem in New York City. It was an honor for the two senior dancers, Flores and Hutzell, to have the opportunity of sharing the role of the “Sugar Plum Fairy” and dancing with a professional dancer for the community to see.

The performances were spectacular.

The Nutcracker being performed by the Allegheny Ballet Company has been a Mishler Theatre Christmas tradition for many years. This show leaves the audience with a warm feeling to start the Christmas season each year.

Allegheny Ballet Company will be moving to its new dance studio in downtown Altoona this month and is looking forward to contributing to the revitalization of the downtown area.
