Liberals need to be reasonable

It seems there is no pleasing some liberals, especially those who serve as talking heads on cable channels.

After months of condemning everything Donald Trump said from immigration and securing borders to repealing Obamacare and prosecuting Hillary Clinton, now these same critics are aghast that Trump might be softening some of his rhetoric and stances.

Trump provided more evidence that he can act presidential in an interview with “60 Minutes” on Sunday evening. Trump was calm and indicated he will be more measured as president-elect and president than he was as a candidate.

That’s not a complete surprise.

In the rough and tumble world of presidential campaigns, issues are often bantered about as black and white rather than shades of gray. And both sides do it.

One example is Trump telling Leslie Stahl that he wants to keep the provisions of Obamacare that cover pre-existing conditions and that allow children to remain on their parents’ insurance until age 26. Liberals are huffing and puffing that Trump isn’t going to throw out the baby with the bath water.

Reasonable people realize when making changes, you tend to keep the good things and work to remove the problems. Apparently, a lot of talking heads can’t accept that a Republican could follow this principle.

The left’s talking heads also are losing their minds over Trump’s statements on immigration.

After bashing the president-elect for months and trying to gin up opposition to him for his campaign comments on deporting illegal immigrants, now they are disappointed that Trump isn’t planning for a major deportation force.

Trump said he wants to deport those with criminal records who are in the country illegally but wants to secure the border before deciding on what to do about other illegals.

And some liberals expressed dismay that Trump is now talking about a wall/fence combination on the border with Mexico rather than just a solid wall.

Sensible Americans just want a sincere effort to secure the border, and Trump indicates that’s his desire, as well.

After months of looking for any way possible to turn the country against Trump, it shouldn’t be surprising the liberal left is continuing that strategy.

But such a tactic shows just how out of touch they are with the Americans who elected Trump the nation’s 45th president.
