John A. ‘Jack’ Gill Jr.

May 27, 1934 - July 15, 2019

John A. “Jack” Gill Jr., 85, Antis Township, died Monday morning at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Tyrone, son of the late John A. Sr. and Dorothy (Stover) Gill. On Dec. 10, 1955, he married Faye Moore at Wesley United Methodist Church in Tyrone. Their love for one another was strong, weathering good and bad times and setting an example of true love that will live on forever.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 63 years; three children: Lisa (Michael) Cherry of Fostoria, James (Dana) Gill of Bellwood and Karin Bruich of Altoona; seven grandchildren: Ryan Cherry, Angela Stonebraker, Adam Cherry, James and Joseph Gill and Leah and Kelsey Bruich; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Janet Kolessy of Tyrone.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, John A. Gill III; and father-in-law and mother-in-law: Donald and Elda Mae Moore.

Jack was a 1952 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. He was the proud owner and operator of Gill’s Auto Body Alignment Shop, Tyrone, for 47 years. He enjoyed working together with his father, and in later years working alongside his son, Jim. He made many friends and acquaintances over the years and was well known in the area. His garage had a stellar reputation, from offering rides to work or home, if needed, and always making sure his customers were satisfied. He even went as far as calling customers to assure the repairs were done the way they expected.

Jack was a life member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Tyrone. He loved his church family and especially enjoyed working in the church kitchen with his good friend, Mr. Dick Hewel. He enjoyed socializing and taking part in church and church activities. He was a life member of Tyrone Sportsman’s Club, a founder of the Tipton Fire Department and a member of the former Action Rifle Team of Tyrone.

One of Jack’s greatest enjoyments were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving, funny and caring father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His children and all of his grandchildren will have many funny memories to share about him in their futures. Jack was quick with a joke, but always there in time of need for anyone. He will most likely be remembered for his smile, his laugh and the gentle pat on back that he gave. He was truly loved by so many.

Arrangements will be private and held at the convenience of his family. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Antis Township. Arrangements are by Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood.

The family suggests that contributions in Jack’s memory be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Tyrone or Operation Smile 3641 Faculty Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23453.
