James Harry ‘Jim’ Burns

April 6, 1952 – June 30, 2019

James Harry Burns, 67, 225 Pointer Drive, Summerville, S.C., died unexpectedly Sunday afternoon at his home.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late David W. and Elinor (McCauley) Burns.

Surviving are five children: Marlana E. and Bryce A., of Summerville, S.C., and Lee D., Jared H. and Joshua J., all of Altoona; three grandchildren; a sister, Joyce A. Cassel and husband, Bob, of New Bloomfield; and former wife and good friend, Rebecca L. of Summerville, S.C.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, David I. Burns and Richard W. Burns.

He retired as an assistant store manager from Publix Supermarkets in 2016, after 19 years of service. Previously, he was an assistant store manager for Wissinger’s grocery store in Altoona.

Jim was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church. He loved playing golf with his son and friends, watching his daughter play softball and the N.Y. Yankees.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednes­day, July 10, 2019, at St. Andrews Parish UMC, 3225 Ashley River Road, Charleston, S.C., Carroll Cash officiating. Arrangements are by Parks Funeral Home, Summerville, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to benefit Jim’s children may be given to St. Andrews Parish UMC, designated to the Jim Burns Memorial Fund.
