William D. ‘Bill’ Chilcote

March 8, 1931 – June 11, 2019

William D. “Bill” Chilcote, 88, Hollentown, passed away Tuesday following a brief illness at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Bland­burg, son of the late Charles M. and Della E. (Richardson) Chilcote. On Oct. 19, 1957, he married Connie J. Michaels in Bellwood.

In addition to his wife, surviving are three children: Polly S. (Tom) Renninger and Charles M. (Jodi) Chilcote, both of Hollentown and Penny J. (Tom) Shomo of Glasgow; six grandchildren: Adam (Roxanne) Renninger, Evan (Chelsea) Renninger, Amanda Hamilton and friend, Josh, Abbey Shomo and friend, Jon, and Joel and Kaylee Chilcote; five great-grandchildren: Morghan and Brantley Renninger, and Levi, Tessa and Emma Hamilton; and a brother, Darwin G. Chilcote of Camp Hill.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Gordon; and a sister, Bernice.

Bill was a 1949 graduate of Reade Township High School and served in the U.S. Army as a tech sergeant during the Korean War. He had owned and operated Chilcote Coal Mine in Hollentown for 10 years and retired as an insurance agent from Prudential Insurance Co. in April 1986.

He was a 50-year member of Coalport Lodge No. 574 F&AM and the Jaffa Shrine, Altoona; a 68-year member of the Fred R. Korman Lodge No. 55 I.O.O.F., Glasgow; and a 20-year member of the Richard L. Beers VFW Post No. 7043, Coalport. He was also a member of the Reade Township Military Organization.

Bill enjoyed woodworking and gardening, but he cherished his loving family most of all.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019, at McQuown Funeral Home, Glasgow, where a Masonic service will be held Saturday evening followed by an Odd Fellows service. Friends also will be received from 2 until the 3:30 p.m. funeral service with military honors Sunday, June 16, 2019, at the funeral home, Pastor Preston Hutchins officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Glasgow.
