Ronald Dale Chathams

Ronald Dale Chathams, 95, Altoona, died Monday afternoon at his residence.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Joseph B. and Ocie Mae (Pensyl) Chathams. On Oct. 14, 1961, he married Frances Jean Shomo in Bedford County.
Surviving are his wife; three children: Sandra Jane Chathams of Buffalo Mills, and Thomas Paul Chathams and Diane Joyce White, both of Altoona; a grandson, Dustin Chathams of Buffalo Mills; a granddaughter, Tarah Logsdon of Hyndman; and three great-grandchildren: Spencer, Elizabeth and Mason.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Ross and Ray Chathams; and two half-brothers: Glenn and Alton Turner.
Ronald was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School. He was a U. S. Navy veteran serving during WWII as a Radio Operator First Class in the Atlantic Theatre aboard a minesweeper. Dale retired from Schwarzenbach-Huber (Bomont Mills) on Dec. 31, 1999, where he had been employed since 1957.
He was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona. He was also a member of Unter Uns; a life member of the Air Force Association; and a member of the Civil Air Patrol, attaining the rank of major after 20 years of service.
Ronald enjoyed woodworking.
Friends will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Pastor Brian Sandell officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
