John M. Negri Sr., 90, Altoona, passed away peacefully Tues­day at the Altoona Center for Nursing Care surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Raffaele and Emanuela (Bocchichio) Negri. He married Darlene L. Hoffman.

Surviving are his loving wife; a son, John (Judy) Negri Jr.; two daughters: Michelle Figaniak and Theresa (Emory) Gargon; a brother, Eugene Negri; six grandchildren: Andrew, Alexandra, Victoria, Nicholas, John III and Tyler; and a great-grandson, Fordham.

He was preceded in death by 10 siblings: Anthony, Andrew, Michael and Daniel Negri, Louise Trabucco, Filomena Negri, twins Evelyn Gilliand and Frank, Josephine Martuch and Theresa Hughes.

He was a 1954 graduate of the Altoona School of Commerce and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a corporal. He worked as a clerk for Conrail for 42 years and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

John was an avid fan of all Pittsburgh teams and Notre Dame. He umpired for softball and was a part of the fast pitch softball league and bocce league at the Buccinese Society. He was also a member of the American Legion A&J Iaia Post 827. John was very proud of his Italian heritage and was a longtime usher at St. Rose of Lima Church. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandkids.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2019, in the Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2019, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
