The Rev. Norman Philip Imgrund

July 26, 1938 - March 13, 2019

Rev. Norman Philip Imgrund, 80, Sulpher Run Road, Jersey Shore, passed away Wednes­day at UPMC Williamsport.

He was born in Johnstown, son of the late Philip J. and Colletta (Anna) Imgrund.

Surviving are a brother, Harold J. Imgrund of Ocala, Fla.; a stepbrother, Leo Bischof of Trenton, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Cathy A. Phan of Germantown, Md.; a grandson, Michael P. Phan of Hyattstown, Md.; and many, many, many good friends.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an adopted son, Diep Phan.

Father Norman was a 1956 graduate of Westmont High School, Johnstown, and a graduate of Saint Francis College, Loretto. He was ordained as a Roman Catholic Priest for the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese in 1964. He served as an associate pastor at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newry and the Visitation Parish in Johnstown. He was the founding pastor of St. Thomas More Parish in Roaring Spring, where he served for 12 years. He came to St. Agnes Catholic Church in November 1984, serving as pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church, Lock Haven, for 14 years. Father Norm also served as pastor at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, and until his retirement, at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Everett.

He was the founder of the Altoona-Johnstown Cursillo movement that has trained about 2,000 leaders for the church and the community. His interest was in lay leadership and he taught many courses in scripture and church history. He was proud to take part in the 1963 March on Washington, D.C.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Holy Spirit Parish, 3 E. Walnut St., Lock Haven. A memorial Mass for Father Norman P. Imgrund will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at the church. A celebration of life event will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2019. The time and place will be announced at a later date. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Lock Haven. Arrangements are by Yost-Gedon Funeral Home & Cremation Services LLC, 121 W. Main St., Lock Haven.
