William ‘Bill’ Morath
William “Bill” Morath, 92, Altoona, formerly of Lower Burrell, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019.
He was born in Indiana Township, son of Lloyd and Irene (Fisher) Morath.
Surviving are a stepson, Richard (Terry) Keibler of Sarasota, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Robyn (Charlie) Simon of Altoona; two step-grandchildren: Dawn (Tom) Daly and Justin Moore of Tampa, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Anne “Betty Lou” Morath; his second wife, Virginia “Ginny” Morath; and five siblings: Emily (Ridgway) Sharpless, Sylvia (Herbert) Weidman, Hazel (William) Brown, and Carl and Paul Morath.
Bill was the owner of B&B Appliances in Lower Burrell. He retired from Fisher Appliance in Freeport.
He liked helping out at his church, Bethesda Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lower Burrell. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran serving in WWII.
Bill always enjoyed family gatherings and time spent with friends. In his younger days, when his nieces and nephews were young, he liked playing Santa at their Christmas gatherings. Bill enjoyed gardening, golfing, square dancing, traveling and taking care of the beautiful property he shared with Ginny. You could always find him feeding and watching the wildlife.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at Frank F. Gigler Funeral Home Inc., Robert P. Karish, supervisor, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell, where a funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.
