Gordon Earl ‘Gitch’ Richards

Gordon Earl “Gitch” Richards, 83, Altoona, died early Tuesday morning, after an extended illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Pearl Mabel (Bradley) Beaver and stepfather, James W. Beaver. On Sept. 17, 1954, he married Mary Jane Hale in Altoona.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Jane; two daughters: Robin N. (Tom) Allen in South Carolina and Bonnie Lou (Mike) Glunt of Altoona; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers: Barry L. Beaver and James P. Richards; and a sister, Esther Burns.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra; a grandson, Mike; two sisters: Nancy and Elva; and a brother, Bill.
Gitch retired as a driver from Lafferty Trucking Co. and previously had been employed by Maierhofer Bakery as a machine operator with 28 years of service. After retirement, Gitch went back to work as a van driver for the Altoona Area School District.
He was a member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona. Gitch was also a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard for eight years.
Gitch enjoyed hunting and fishing.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or funeral service. Arrangements are by Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations be made to them in care of the funeral home.
