James McElhinney

June 17, 1942 – Dec. 14, 2018

James McElhinney, 76, Altoona, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Jack and Catherine McElhinney.

Surviving are three daughters: Jendy McElhinney (Michael Brink) and their children: Ethan and Michaela Brink; Melinda Houser (Ward) and their children: Justin and Jeremy Houser; and Carrie Smith and her daughter, Brittany Strawcutter; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Kitty Mae; his significant other, Phyllis (Ciaverella) Ressler of Altoona and her children: Lisa Miller (Bob) and their children: Brent Miller, Keri Miller and Kenny Ressler and his children: Jasmine and Jaycee Ressler; and Marcia Frantz and her children: Joshua Frantz (Heather) and Pollyjo Frantz; and by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Herm; and three brothers: Jack, Joe and Jerry.

Jim was a U.S. Marine Veteran serving during the Vietnam War as a corporal E-4. He retired as a construction worker and previously worked for the Aliquippa Steel Mills. He was also the former owner of a fish hatchery. He was a life member of the VFW Colobine-Loucks Post 5201, Bellwood.

Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at Santella Funeral Home, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery with full military honors.
