Stephen J. ‘Ozzie’ ‘Pop-Pop’ Flanagan Sr.

Stephen J. “Ozzie” “Pop-Pop” Flanagan Sr., beloved husband, father and grandfather, 72, Altoona, died Wednesday at his residence, in the arms of his loving wife, Patty.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Edward J. and Anna Helen (Lach) Flanagan. On Nov. 24, 1973, he married Patricia L. Dennis at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Altoona.

In addition to his beloved wife, surviving are twin daughters: Lisa (James) Blystone of Parker and Lori (Darren) Ferguson of Oakdale; a son, Stephen J. Flanagan Jr. of Altoona; seven grandchildren: Andrea, Alexander, J.J., Haleigh, Brandon, Dylan and Ava; four siblings: Edward J. (Tina) Flanagan Jr. and Patricia A. (Francis “Bear”) McCloskey, both of Altoona, Michael P. (Deborah) Flanagan of Hollidaysburg and Cathy (John) Cribari of Fresno, Calif.; and his dog, Mopsy.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christina, on Aug. 5, 2018.

Steve was a 1963 graduate of Altoona High School and attended Parsons Junior College, Parsons, Kan. He also attended Frederick College, Portsmouth, Va. In 2004, he retired as a foreman for the Pennsylvania Depart­ment of Transportation, Hollidaysburg, after 33 years of service.

He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Altoona, and St. Stanislaus Kostka Brother­hood.

Steve enjoyed his family and friends, hunting, fishing and football. He was a member of the 1962 Altoona High School football team, which was inducted into the Blair County Sports Hall of Fame.

A funeral Mass, a celebration of Steve’s life, will be held at noon today, Nov. 30, 2018, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Altoona, Father Christopher Lemme, Father Ronald Osinski and Monsignor Robert C. Mazur concelebrants. Committal rites will be held at the convenience of the family at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Ceme­tery, Altoona. Arrange­ments are by Jones Funeral Home, Altoona.
