George E. Herget

George E. Herget, 91, Martinsburg, formerly of West Mifflin, went home to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly on Thursday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Elizabeth, son of the late William and Anna (Kefover) Herget. On July 19, 1958, he married Lucille I. Hurl in Duquesne, and she died Dec. 4, 2013.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy K. Kletzing and husband, Rev. Joel Kletzing, of Martinsburg, with whom George resided; two grandsons: Benjamin and Daniel; and three siblings: Eileen Ebner and husband, Bill, Sara Herget and Edward Herget and wife, Linda, all of Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by a brother, William.

George was a 1945 graduate of Elizabeth High School, and he was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He retired from the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and was a member of the union for 65 years, working at McNulty Brothers in Murrysville and Davis-Fetch Corp., Pittsburgh.

He was a member of Christ Church, Roaring Spring. He was a former member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church, West Mifflin, where he served as an elder, and also Christ Lutheran Church in Duquesne, where he served on the church council. He was also a member of the Duquesne-McKeesport Lodge No. 731.

George enjoyed woodworking, traveling with his family and reading.

At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, at Richland Cemetery, Dravosburg. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Christ Church Roaring Spring, the Rev. Joel Kletzing officiating. Arrangements are by the Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in George’s memory may be given to Christ Church, 7524 Woodbury Pike, Roaring Spring, PA 16673.
