Gwendlyn Sue ‘Gwen’ Strayer

Gwendlyn Sue “Gwen” Strayer, 72, Palm Bay, Fla., passed away Thursday evening, Aug. 9, 2018, at Kindred Hospital in Melbourne, Fla.
She was born in Hollidaysburg, the youngest of five daughters of the late Jesse Jr. and Violet I. (Mentzer) Strayer.
Surviving are two sisters: Linda Strayer Naff and husband, James, of Rockledge, Fla., and Sherry Strayer Gregg and husband, Howard, of State College; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters: Patsy Strayer McNelis and Gloria Strayer Halbritter. Gwen and her two sisters all passed away within last 13 months.
After finishing her sixth year at Gaysport Elementary School, Gwen moved to Florida with her parents when her father took a job in the space program at Cape Canaveral. She graduated from Eau Gallie High School and retired in 2012 as an executive assistant at AuthenTec Inc., in Melbourne, Fla., which was bought out by Apple Inc.
Gwen was a gifted artist and crafter whose work was enjoyed by many people, especially those who were lucky enough to have received one of her lovely shadow boxes full of items relating to their personal history and stories.
Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. memorial service on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Alto-Reste Chapel, 109 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona. Arrangements are by Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care.
