May 14, 1941 - Sept. 6, 2018
Edward E. “Whitey” Neff, 77, Bellwood, passed away peacefully on Thursday at UPMC Altoona, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Ernest E. and Anna Marie (Utley) Neff. He married Judith E. Caber, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 2, 1991.
Surviving are two daughters: Darlene Siegrist of Altoona and Cindy (Paul) Duncan of Chester, Va.; two stepdaughters: Barbara Dejesus of Bellwood and Judy Hardsock of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren: Shawn Siegrist, Waverly Wright, Mara Duncan, Caleb Duncan, Madison Duncan, Dawn (Brian) Thomas and Tia Cruz; five great-grandchildren: Sydney and Serina Siegrist and Asha, Elliott and Frankie Thomas; and his former spouse, Patricia E. (Pringle) Young.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Culbertson; a stepson, James Cowher; and two infant great-grandsons.
Whitey was a graduate of Altoona Area High School, and he joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1958. He was honorably discharged as a private first class in 1964. He retired from Kelly Monument Co., Altoona, after 20 years of service.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy and Cesare Battisti.
Football season will not be the same without Whitey yelling at anyone who called while he cheered for the Penn State Nittany Lions and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had a love for cars, buying, painting, washing and waxing the 500-plus cars that he owned. He enjoyed cooking, talking to and watching the TV and spending time with family. He also enjoyed sitting on his porch, watching the cars go by or watching his great-grandchildren play, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation or service. Arrangements are by The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona.
