Virginia A. (Walton) Pennypacker, 86, Altoona, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, at her home.

She was born in Washington Boro, Pa., a daughter of the late Charles R. and Lillian M. (Smith) Walton. She graduated from William Penn High School in Millersville. She worked at RCA and Lerners in Lancaster. She moved to Camp Hill in 1954 and then to Altoona in 1960.

She is survived by five sons: Ronald of York, his two children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; Michael of Glenville, N.Y., and his wife, Jeanne, their five children and 10 grandchildren; Brian and girlfriend, Sara Shuey, of Lebanon, and his two children; Sam and his wife, Brandi, of Lebanon and their one son; Dwight and fiancee, Dina, of Altoona and his one daughter; and one daughter, Ann Natyzak of Manhattan, N.Y. She is also survived by one sister, Lorna E. Lawrence and her husband, Gerald R. Lawrence, of Lancaster.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and their husbands: Esther M. Galloway and Clyde Galloway and Helen Sensenig and John R. Sensenig; two sons: Henry T. and Philip C; and one daughter, Candice A.

Virginia was employed by J.C. Penney for 20 years, working in the receiving, display, sewing and selling floor departments. She was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, Penn’s Woods Council. She helped organize Pack 12 at the Ward Avenue Presbyterian Church and was den mother. In 1965, she received her den mother’s award and received a Silver Fawn Award in 1971.

Her hobbies included golf, painting, camping and baseball, and she was active in road rallies with her Corvette. She was also an animal lover and loved to garden and do crafts.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at First Church of Christ, 112 Good Shepherd Road, Altoona, PA 16601, with Pastor John Collins officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata.
