Joyce L. Steinbauer

Joyce L. Steinbauer, 75, Martinsburg, formerly of Moser Road, Altoona, died Sunday at UPMC Altoona, after a brief illness.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Robert F. and Pauline A. (Simpson) Hermesky. Joyce was raised in the home of Hobert and Verna Vipond, her great-aunt and uncle. On July 27, 1963, she married Norman E. Steinbauer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bellwood.

In addition to her husband, surviving are four children: Gloria (Walter) Johnson of Aurora, Colo., Norman E. (Kihye) Steinbauer Jr. of Black Lick, Ohio, Robert Francis Steinbauer of Wichita, Kan., and Jeffrey Leo (Jean) Steinbauer of Dumfries, Va.; six grandchildren; and a brother, Robert “Ivan” (Barbara) Hermesky of Sparks, Nev.

She was preceded in death by an infant son; a sister, Patricia Stafford; and a brother, Gary Hermesky Sr.

Joyce was a 1961 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. She was a homemaker and previously worked for Vipond’s Restaurant in Canoe Creek for seven years.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newry.

Joyce enjoyed farming, reading, Sudoku, picture puzzles, sewing, stamp collecting and bird watching.

Friends will be received from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newry, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Father Allen Zeth celebrant. Committal will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood. Arrangements are by Jones Funeral Home, Altoona.
