Helen F. Ritter

Helen F. Ritter, 94, Tyrone, died Sunday.

She was born in Tyrone, daughter of the late George and Elsie Nestlerode.

Surviving are two children: Jim (Barbara) Ritter of Fairfax, Va., and Joyce (Gary) Burwell of Culpepper, Va.; two grandchildren: Michelle (Brett) Nungesser of Warrenton, Va., and Tracy (Scott) Salzer of Casselberry, Fla.; five grandchildren: Tyler, Zachery (Valerie), Jacklyn, James and Rachael; her first great-great-grandchild, due in September; and one brother-in-law: Richard Hoffman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; a sister, Velda Hoffman; and three brothers: Pete, Floyd and George Nestlerode.

Helen was a 1942 graduate of Tyrone High School and Altoona School of Business. She worked as a salesperson for Wolf Furniture Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1985.

She was active in Anderson-Denny VFW Post 4559 Women’s Auxiliary, where she also served as past president, and the Howard Gardner American Legion Post 28 Women’s Auxiliary. She also volunteered at Epworth Manor for many years.

Helen enjoyed reading, working on crafts, especially her ribbon crosses, doing word puzzles and, most of all, spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone.
