George Edward DeJaiffe
Feb. 23, 1938 - July 10, 2018
George Edward DeJaiffe, 80, Altoona, passed away Tuesday at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born in Beccaria, son of the late Camille and Josephine (O’Shell) DeZaiffe. On Oct. 21, 1978, he married Judith A. Emeigh.
Surviving are his wife; three children: Donna (Richard) Faust and Tracy DeJaiffe, both of Altoona, and Mark E. DeJaiffe of Flinton; three stepchildren: Deborah Lawrence and Dalene Emeigh, both of Altoona, and Roy Emeigh of Lynchburg, Va.; three grandchildren: Tara (James) Pasquini, Zachary Hainsey and Tyler Wholaver; 13 great-grandchildren; and 10 step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Feather; and a brother, Norman DeZaiffe.
George was a 1957 graduate of Altoona High School. From 1957-60, he served in the U.S. Army in the Signal Corps as a specialist 4th Class in Korea, and he later joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a seaman’s apprentice from 1960-62. In 1998, he retired as a machinist in the OD Department of SKF Industries after more than 30 years of service. He had previously worked in the shipping department for Loungeray Factory, Hollidaysburg.
He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Duncansville, and he enjoyed fishing and repairing watches, clocks and jewelry.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday at Stevens Memorial Chapel, Pastors Doug Pilot and Matthew Smart officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
