Donald R. ‘Nick’ Walter

July 7, 1935 - July 26, 2018

Donald R. “Nick” Walter, 83, Claysburg, passed away Thursday at Nason Hospital.

He was born in Claysburg, son of the late Charles and Lenora “Nora” (Seymour) Walter.

Surviving are two sisters: Celia Deffibaugh, widow of George, of Sproul and Ruth Tipton and husband, Warren “Tip,” of Claysburg; a brother, Robert “Bob” Walter of Claysburg; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Harry “Pete,” Charles and William Walter.

Nick retired from General Refractories, Claysburg, upon its closing, and when he was younger, he drove a log truck. He previously attended Grace United Church of Christ, Claysburg.

He enjoyed hanging out at “Frank’s Place,” watching westerns on TV, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an avid fan of NASCAR.

Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018, at Leslie-Miller Funeral Home, Claysburg. A celebration of life service will be held after the visitation, Pastor Robert Penner officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Central Pennsyl­vania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
