Susan ‘Esther’ Grabill

Susan “Esther” Grabill, 77, Sproul, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday evening at her residence, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born in Blue Knob, daughter of the late Henry and Sara (Feathers) Claar. On Dec. 22, 1956, she married Perry Grabill.

Surviving are her husband; four children: Barbara Conrad and husband, Denny, of Martinsburg, Carolyn Parshall and partner, Dan DeLancey, of McKee, Terry Grabill and wife, Tammy, of Altoona and Steve Grabill and wife, Tonia, of Martinsburg; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; six siblings: Sam Claar and wife, Judy, of Altoona, Richard Claar and wife, Joy, of East Freedom, Dave Claar and wife, Crystal, of Centerburg, Ohio, Thelma Claar of East Freedom, Walter Claar and wife, Bev, of East Freedom and Jeannie Naugle of Hollidaysburg.

She was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorothy and Ada; and three brothers, Bob, Clair and Donald “Sonny” Claar.

Esther attended Claysburg-Kimmel High School. She retired from Komar, Claysburg, and she had previously worked at Tritex and at the shoe factories in Martinsburg and Altoona.

She attended Faith Assembly of God, Roaring Spring, where she loved to worship and hear the word. She enjoyed bowling, cross-stitching, her Pekingese dogs and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. She was very generous to family and friends, and she was a fantastic cook; her mashed potatoes were legendary.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Faith Assembly of God, Roaring Spring, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018, Pastor Del Smith officiating. Interment will be made in Imler Valley Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring.
