David H. ‘Butch’ Bearer

David H. “Butch” Bearer, 76, Carrolltown, passed away Tuesday at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Susquehanna Township, son of the late Harvey A. and Mary R. Bearer. On July 6, 1963, he married Dorothy Niebauer.

Surviving are his loving wife; three children: Theresa M. (Ron) Bush of Hollidaysburg, David H. (Lorrie Smego) Bearer Jr. of Carrolltown and Janice Bearer (Wade Patrick) of Indiana, Pa.; four grandchildren: Sara L. Stotsky, Hannah M. Bearer, Benjamin D. Bearer and Alaina J. Bearer; a step-grandson, Joseph A. (Janelle) Eichenlaub; two step-grandchildren: Lillian and Parry; nine siblings: Alfred (Loretta) Bearer of Painesville, Ohio, Clare Bearer of Cromwell, Conn., Kenneth (Rae) Bearer of Hastings, Charles (Carole) Bearer of Flint, Mich., Ronald (Helen) Bearer of Northern Cambria, Rose (Patrick) Grimme and Margaret Loudenslager, both of Altoona, James (Karen) Bearer of Hastings and Donna (Dave) Burns of Roaring Spring; a brother-in-law, Dennis Anna of Altoona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters: Mildred Pavia, Mary Jane Bearer and Dorothy Anna; and two brothers-in-law: Daniel Loudenslager and Michael Pavia.

Butch was a 1959 graduate of Spangler High School. He retired as a mining supervisor for North Cambria Fuel Co. after 44 years of service.

He was member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown; a member of Holy Name Society; endowment member of the NRA; a life-member of the North American Hunting Club; an honorary member of Packers Fork Hunting Club, Clinton County; and a social member of Carrolltown Volunteer Fire Company.

Butch enjoyed hunting and woodworking, and there was nothing that he couldn’t fix. He was a man of faith and conviction who dearly loved his grandchildren, and he never turned down a chocolate dessert.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2018, at Stevens Funeral Home Inc., 146 N. Main St., Carrolltown, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Additional visitation will be held from 9 until the 10 a.m. funeral Mass on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, Carrolltown, the Rev. Jude W. Brady, O.S.B., celebrant. Committal will be in the church cemetery.
