Catherine R. ‘Kay’ Cronin

Catherine R. “Kay” Cronin, 92, Summerville, S.C., wife of the late William J. Cronin, passed away Tuesday at Summerville Medical Center.

She was born in Haverford, daughter of the late Edward and Mary Ellen McNally. On May 1, 1954, she married William at Our Mother of Good Counsel, Bryn Mawr, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are six children: Cathy (Ted) Beam of Altoona, Dan (Fran) Cronin of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Peggy Burbage, Terry Kramer, Sharon Golden and Ed Cronin, all of Summerville, S.C.; eight grandchildren: Therese, Amanda, Samantha, Christine, Elizabeth, Paul, Cher and Jason; and 15 great-grandchildren: Brianna, Abigail, Alayna, Madisyn, Olivia, Dylan, Wyatt, Steven, Michael, Cary, Whitley, Alyssa, Bryson, Alexis and Dixie.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Harry McNally, Edward McNally and Robert McNally; a sister, Margaret McNally; and two sons-in-law, Harold Kramer and Craig Golden.

From 1932-40, Kay attended grade school at Our Mother of Good Counsel, Bryn Mawr. She then attended Haverford High School and graduated in 1944. She was employed by Provident Mutual Insurance Co. from June 1944 to July 1955. She was a Girl Scout leader from 1944-54.

She and her husband moved to Northeast Philadephia in May 1954 and attended St. Timothy’s Parish. From December 1955 to June 1976, they attended Resurrection of Our Lord. In June 1976, they moved to Summerville, S.C., where they started attending St. John the Beloved Catholic Church. Kay was coordinator of coffee and donuts for Sunday Masses and gift bearers for weekend Masses and holidays. She was a member of the Shepard Program in 1986; vice-president of the Women’s Club in 1984; she was made president of the Women’s Club in 1985; and she volunteered for the church rectory from 1986-88. Kay loved babysitting her granddaughters from 1979-94. She was a Eucharistic minister, greeter, mailing committee member and member of Flowertown Seniors.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2018, at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville, S.C. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at

9 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2018, at St. John the Beloved Catholic Church, Summerville, S.C. Entombment will be held afterward at Dorchester Memory Gardens Mausoleum, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville, S.C.
