Shirley E. Holton

July 23, 1938 - March 14, 2018

Shirley E. Holton, 79, Hollidaysburg, died Wednesday morning at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Nelson E. Clapper and Eleanor M. (Moses) Gross. On Feb. 1, 1957, she married Ralph E. Holton Sr. in Winchester, Va.

Surviving are eight children: Deborah K. Spiecher of Hinesville, Ga., Catherine A. Knisely of Tipton, Patricia L. Lauver of Altoona, Ralph E. Jr. of Hollidaysburg, Pamela J. Brazle of New Enterprise, Randy S. of Bear Creek, N.C., LaWanda S. Reed of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Dawn M. Hetherington of Hollidaysburg; 21 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and twin children: Robert Lee and Roberta Lynn.

On Sept. 26, 2003, Shirley retired as a knitting machine operator for Warnaco Inc., Duncansville, after 29 years of service. She was a former member of Mill Run Volunteer Fire Company Woman’s Auxiliary.

She enjoyed word search puzzles, embroidery and canning. Her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren, and having all of her children happy was of the utmost importance to her.

Friends will be received from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, Pastor Tim Allen officiating. Interment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona.
