Lois Regina Shimer

Lois Regina Shimer, 90, Altoona, died Tuesday afternoon at UPMC Altoona.
She was born in Lebanon, daughter of the late William Reginald Cuttrell and Dorothy (Snyder) Cuttrell Weaver. On July 12, 1947, she married Richard E. Shimer in Altoona, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 10, 2018.
Surviving is a nephew, Kevin Shimer.
Lois was a 1945 graduate of Altoona High School and a graduate of Zeth Business School, where she earned a degree in accounting. She was formerly employed as a bookkeeper for Montgomery-Ward, Sky Bros and Peerless Printing. She was a volunteer for Contact Altoona, Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, Easter Seals, Cresson State School and the Altoona Cat Club.
She was a member of Simpson-Temple United Parish, Altoona, where she sang in the choir, taught confirmation class and was a delegate to the Allegheny Synod. Lois was also a member of the Altoona Hospital Auxiliary, past president of Kittanning Trail Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary, a member of the Cat Fanciers Association and a past president of the Altoona Area Co-Mission.
Lois and her husband enjoyed breeding and showing Siamese cats, and she enjoyed playing HORSE, pinochle and bridge, crafts and chairing the “Golden Games” for 10 years.
Friends will be received from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2018, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, the Rev. James House officiating. Entombment will be made at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
