Edward Lee ‘Ed’ Krull

March 27, 1939 - March 5, 2018

Edward Lee “Ed” Krull, 78, Altoona, formerly of Lilly, passed away Monday due to respiratory failure, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Johnstown and raised in Portage, the youngest of 12 children of the late Joseph and Angela “Nellie” (Wilczek) Krull. On April 28, 1962, he married Joan McNally at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Cassandra.

Surviving are his wife; six children: Lorrie (Kirk) Zimmerman, Becky (Randy) Kowalczyk, Shelly Krull (Chris Bertani), Brian (Julie) Krull, Patrick (Heather) Krull and Kevin (Kathleen) Krull; a son-in-law, Matthew Koegler; 27 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Ann Pisarski, Rose Sokira and Helen (Andrew Sr.) Teno; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jodie Koegler; two grandsons: Joshua Kunkle and Evan Koegler; seven brothers: John, Stanley, Frank, Michael, Anthony, Joseph and Tom; and a sister, Mary.

Ed was a 1957 graduate of Portage Area High School. He owned and operated Krull’s Auto Body Shop and the Mighty Circle Barbell Club, Lilly.

His faith was strong, and he taught his family the importance of having a relationship with the Lord. He was a Eucharist minister at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Cassandra, and at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, Wilmore, where he also taught youth catechism.

He bred and raised beagles for field trial competitions, and he proudly finished a field champion. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing pinochle, dancing the jitterbug, auto racing, watching Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football, going out to eat and, in his younger days, lifting weights.

Ed was an easy-going guy with a heart of gold, a twinkle in his eye and a kind word for everyone he met. His greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren, who love him very much and are going to miss him dearly.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altoona, the Rev. Lubomir J. Strecok celebrant. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
