Walter S. Marks

July 8, 1928 - Feb. 5, 2018

Walter S. Marks, 89, Altoona, passed away Monday at Maybrook Hills Health and Rehabili­ta­tion Center.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Samuel and Minnie (Walters) Marks. In 1954, he married Donna L. Barry.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years; three daughters: Robbie Sue Marks of Monroeville and twins Lisa (Brian) Biggs in Missouri and Lynn Marks of Duncansville; two sons: Garry (Kelly) of Duncansville and Jerry (Diane) of Altoona; seven grandchildren: Michael, Matt, Chrissy, David, Hunter, Sydney and Katie; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Harriet Walz of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Liesl Chibirka, in 2016.

Walter was a 1947 graduate of Altoona High School. From 1950-52, he served in the U.S. Army in the 187th Airborne Ranger Unit during the Korean conflict. He retired as a truck driver for Ward Trucking Co. after 35 years of service.

He formerly attended Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altoona. He enjoyed woodworking and camping, and he was an avid tennis player.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018, at Sorge Funeral Home Inc., Hollidaysburg, Pastor Drew McCaffery officiating.
