Russell W. Seilhamer

Russell W. Seilhamer, 86, Altoona, died Sunday at Altoona Center for Nursing Care.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late John E. and Arvada V. (Sparks) Seilhamer. He was raised in Mount Union by his maternal grandmother, Frances Beaston.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Thelma E. (Biddle) Seilhamer; four children: Larry, Jeff and wife, Debbie, Linda Shaffer and Joy Cover and husband, Joe; 11 grandchildren: Christopher, Rachel, Ryan, Russ, Nichole, Shawn, Shane, Natalie, Ashley, Nick and Katie; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, David; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six siblings: Budd, Starr, John, Jerry, Sonny and Shirley; and a son-in-law, Bubba Shaffer.
Russell worked as a brakeman and engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad. He retired as a brakeman for Berwind Railway.
He was a friendly person who liked to talk to anyone. He loved his dog, Sweetie, and all his family, as well as flowers, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. Russell enjoyed listening to his country and gospel music, and he liked cars, collecting hats and baseball cards and the Altoona Curve baseball team.
Everyone loved his famous spaghetti and meatballs, and he will be missed by everyone.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.
