Zane R. Johnsonbaugh, 85, Bellmeade Drive, Altoona, died Monday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness.

He was born in Stormstown, son of the late Karl and Dorothy (Thomas) Johnsonbaugh. On May 1, 1959, he married Shirley G. Hileman.

Surviving are his wife; two sons: Bret (Brenda) Johnsonbaugh of Duncans-ville and Rex (Gale) Johnsonbaugh of Bellemead; five grandchildren: Nicole (Scott) Hileman, Ami (Ryan) Fether, Joseph (Shannon) Carper and Taylor and Jordon Johnsonbaugh; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sharon Hampton of Dunnellon, Fla.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Saylor and Jim.

Zane was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, and he attended Penn State University. In the 1950s, he served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Ward Trucking after more than 38 years of service, and for 20 years, he was president of J-Line Trucking Inc., Altoona, until his retirement in 2012.

Throughout the years, he was universally acknowledged for his service to the National Motor Freight Traffic Association, where he served in numerous committees, such as chairman of the board of directors from 1975-85 and as director emeritus until his retirement in 2013, and he was responsible for an ad hoc committee to preserve rights of truckers. He was esteemed for his service in this area of business.

He was a member of his beloved Shadylane Rod & Gun Club in Petersburg, as well as the Alexandria Legion, Tyrone Elks Lodge 212, Bellwood Eagles and Heidelberg Country Club. Zane loved Penn State football, the Paterno era, Pirates baseball and tailgating. He also loved hunting and fishing at Camp Shadylane.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. today,

Jan. 10, 2018, at Derman Funeral Home, Tyrone, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at the funeral home, Pastor Cindy Carlisle officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
