Mary Melnick, 92, Altoona, took her final journey to the Lord on Saturday morning at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of late Josef and Maria (Schmid) Kaser. Her husband, Michael J. “Mike,” whom she married on Oct. 14, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona, preceded her in death on April 13, 2003.
Surviving are two daughters: Mary Rose Poorman and husband, Lewis, of Altoona and Rosalie Tarris and husband, Joseph, of Harrisburg; two grandsons: Lewis Poorman and Adam Poorman and fiancee, Kelly; a granddaughter, Mara Lytle and husband, Caleb; and a great-granddaughter, Ella Rose Lytle.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lena Maierhofer.
Mary completed her graduation requirements in 1968 at Altoona Area High School. She was employed as a supervisor at Altoona Shoe Co. and in housekeeping at Altoona Hospital.
Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona, and a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. She was a member of the Unter Uns ladies’ auxiliary.
Mary enjoyed sewing, reading and coloring and loved her cats.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, where a vigil for the deceased will be held during the visitation and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Stanley J. Krish Funeral Home Inc., 1204 17th St., Altoona, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1400 Fourth Ave., Altoona. Committal will be at Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery.
