Doris Jeanne (Henchey) Buchanan

Doris Jeanne (Henchey) Buchanan, Hollidaysburg, died Monday morning, Jan. 22, 2018 at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Altoona daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Lightner) Henchey. On Aug. 28, 1948, she married Robert Frank Buchanan and had five children. He preceded her in death April 24, 2006. She then married James Rhodes in 2015.

Surviving are her husband, James; five children: Cheryl Rupp and her husband, Larry, Richard F. Buchanan and his wife, Mary Ann, Douglas S. Buchanan and his wife, Sherrie, all of Altoona, Mark H. Buchanan and his wife, Michal, of York and Kris Hallinan and her husband, Christopher, of Altoona; 11 grandchildren: Robin Smithgall, Matt Rupp, Joshua Buchanan, Ryan Buchanan, Scott Buchanan, Julie Sheetz, Rachel Buchanan, Rebekah Buchanan, Trevor Hallinan, Connor Hallinan and Lindsey Hallinan; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Thomas Henchey of York, Richard Henchey of Hurricane, W.Va., and William Henchey of Altoona.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Donna Murtif.

Doris was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, and she was an active member of the former Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, Altoona, and Jaggard United Methodist Church, Altoona, where she held several board positions. She was a life member of Delphi Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star; a past president of the former Eldorado Kiwanianne’s; a member of Contact Altoona; and a member of Faith Riders at Zion Lutheran Church.

She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg, where a celebration of life service will be held at 7 p.m., the Rev. Evelyn Madison officiating. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
