Gary F. Pfahler, 66, Altoona, passed away unexpectedly on Monday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Fay “Butch” and Ruth “Honey” (Merritts) Pfahler. On Sept. 1, 1984, he married Ann Collins.
Surviving are his wife; a brother, Joseph (Sharon) Pfahler of Altoona; three sisters: Sandy Conley and Lori Pruznak, both of Altoona, and Cheri (Robert) Dick of Bellwood; a special nephew, Rodney Conley; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Catherine Montuoro and Helen Burkheimer.
Gary was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School, and he attended Altoona School of Commerce. He completed his education by earning a bachelors’ degree in accounting from the National School of Business, Rapid City, S.D. He was president and CEO of Altoona First Savings Bank, where he worked for 43 years.
He was a longtime member of Altoona AMBUCS, and he served on the board of directors for Pennsylvania Association of Community Bankers and the board of directors for ARC of Altoona.
Gary enjoyed vacationing in Atlantic City, N.J., traveling and attending Altoona Curve games.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at Stevens Memorial Chapel, Pastor Doug McGaffin officiating.
