Leone M. Schmittle, 105, Hollidaysburg, passed away Tuesday morning at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Frank and Edith Keller Higgins. On Oct. 17, 1928, she married Robert J. Schmittle in Woodland, and he preceded her in death on May 23, 1995.

Surviving are six grandchildren: Karen (Jim) Thompson of New Freedom, Patrick Kandlbinder of Cupertino, Calif., Kristin Muir of Anchorage, Alaska, Suzanne (Ron) Kuhn of Altoona, Edward H. Stevens III (Debbie) of Corona Del Mar, Calif. and Ruth Ann (Tim) Stevens of Spring, Texas; six great-grandchildren: Brittney Corl of Los Angeles, Calif., Devin (Rebecca) Shannon of New Freedom, Sarah Shannon of Baltimore, Md., Rebecca (John) Hereford of Cherry Hill, N.J., Kevin Muir of Pittsburgh and Patrick Kuhn of Falls Church, Va.; two great-great-grandchildren: Noah Shannon of New Freedom, and Ethan Shannon of Baltimore, Md.; and a son-in-law, Edward H. Stevens Jr. of Altoona.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn R. Stevens, on Feb. 4, 2015.

After Leone married Robert, they lived in Altoona where they owned and operated the Clover Farm Store for 45 years. Leone also worked for J.C. Penney Co., where she retired as a custom drape specialist.

She was a lifetime member, as well as the oldest member, of Llyswen United Methodist Church, Altoona. She was also a member of the Altoona Women’s Club.

She enjoyed visiting family in New Jersey, and she was an avid bridge player. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and bowling.

Friends will be received from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2017, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Stevens Memorial Chapel. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
