James M. Stefanick

Nov. 7, 1949 – Nov. 27, 2017

James M. Stefanick, 68, Twin Rocks, passed away Monday at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness and complications with dialysis.

He was born in Johnstown, son of the late Michael and Julia Susan (Lonesky) Stefanick.

Surviving are three siblings: Michael Jr. (fiancee Linda Mauriello) Stefanick of Duncansville, Andrew (Dunyia) Stefanick, of China Grove, N.C., and David (Kathleen) Stefanick of Raleigh, N.C.; seven nieces and nephews: Michelle Stefanick, Kevin Stefanick, Ruthann Stefanick Freeland, Andrew “Drew” (fiancee Rachel Burns) Stefanick, Kara Stefanick (Brandon) Dodson, Michael Stefanick and David Stefanick; and special friends: John Adams, John Yarnivec and Nancy Gordon.

He was a graduate of Blacklick Valley School District and Hiram G. Andrews Maintenance Program. He retired from Blacklick Valley School District after 25 years of service as a custodian.

Jim was the first baby to survive with the Rh factor in the Greater Johnstown area.

He was an active member of the Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox community in Vintondale.

Jim loved his family, and he loved to do projects around the house. He loved his Pittsburgh sports teams and was an avid Steelers, Penguins and Pirates fan. He loved to laugh and joke, and always maintained a positive attitude despite his health issues that would have worn most others down.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at Askew-Houser Funeral Homes Inc., Nanty Glo. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at Ss. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Vintondale, the Very Rev. Grigori Tsjouman officiating. Interment will be held at Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
