Richard W. Potter

Richard W. Potter, 85, Duncansville, formerly of Elmcroft of Altoona, passed away Monday at Homewood at Martinsburg.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late William Ross Potter and Hilda Jane (Butterbaugh) Potter. He married Shirley Ann McAlarney, who preceded him in death on April 16, 2006.
Surviving are a daughter, Terri Ammann; two grandchildren: Justin and Breayann Ammann; a great-grandchild, Sophia Ammann; and a brother, Garry Potter.
He was preceded in death by a son, David; and a brother, Kenneth.
Richard was a graduate of Altoona High School, and he received a master’s degree from Penn State University. He was a member of the U.S. Army for many years, as well as the National Guard. He was leader of the First Division Band and PA 28th Division Band. He was a music teacher for Altoona Area School District for many years, and he owned Ritchey’s Music Store.
Richard was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Altoona. He loved music and his family.
Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Pastor Scott Custead officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
